KALA GHODA : an Indian street festival!

It's hard to get that real good feeling about festivals sometimes.
Food, Art and People...awaiting for the days when art meets masquerades, the traffic is diverted, and one has so much to look forward to, The street festival at Mumbai Called KALA GHODA is now a substantial event that people look forward to.

Colorful Paper Fans...on the lines of ORIGAMI.

The street festival is named KALA GHODA which means Black Horse, and an installation of the magnificent horse  to commemorate the event.

Out of the many Art forms that it bears...Installations are very interesting  and still under exploration.  This particular one was made of glasses (CHAI glasses) specifically.

Another installation made out of plastic bottles, to signify the re-usage of this plastic into a form of art.

The most important part of the Street festival, were the colorful, quirky, funky, creative shops that crowd around, making this place a huge market for creative entrepreneurs.

Dream catchers and more...

The un-ending entertainment, for all those who just come to while away time, don't ever miss out on these street performers, who can grab attention in a minute, or in this case, he does not move for hours.

There is so much diversity in India and various forms of performances that happen. Each form is sure to be unique and engaging.

Another very inspiring installation

This installation perhaps, deals with noise pollution. an awareness through art.

The performers wait for their turn...

This installation was made by a NGO (Non- governmental Organization) for protecting the existing trees.

Of course after all that walking and galavanting through the wave of people, an evening snack is a must!

The night life of the street festival continues with well lit and very entreating performances. A ride on this jazzy chariot would cost just about 250/-

The night is now taken over by dances and musical performances from all around India, which brings the street festival to an end. The street festival happens in the month of February, in Mumbai. Mark your calendars and make it a must visit!Festivals should be a moment to come together and celebrate art and humanity. It would be a shame if there was such a divide.
